National news: On Friday, the Amritsar–Saharsa Janseva Express faced a serious accident. As the train neared Sonvarsha Kachhari station, smoke began rising from one coach. Within minutes, flames spread rapidly. Panic struck the passengers as shouts echoed inside the train. Some people quickly pulled the chain to stop the train. The moving train came to a sudden halt. A scene of chaos and fear was witnessed at the railway tracks.
The moment flames spread, passengers started rushing out. Children and women screamed in fear. Thick smoke filled the air inside the coach. People struggled to breathe and ran outside. Thankfully, railway staff guided them to safety.
The fire was so intense that the affected bogie was completely burnt. Luggage and belongings of many passengers turned to ashes. Flames roared for several minutes before control was attempted. Witnesses said the blaze was terrifying to watch. The train remained halted at the spot.
Soon after the alert, fire brigades and Railway Protection Force teams arrived. Firefighters used foam and high-pressure water jets to douse the fire. After 45 minutes of effort, flames were under control. The burning bogie, however, was fully destroyed. Passengers stood shocked as the blackened coach smoldered.
